“The new mission at Mecúa, in the archdiocese of Nampula started in 2022. This was basically a relocation of N’nango mission in the diocese of Pemba which due to security concerns had to be relocated. The community is made up of four brothers. Others are still pursuing their theological studies in Tanzania.

After the completion of their small monastery in December 2024, the community is living a Benedictine life of prayer and work. At the same time, they are providing pastoral care in more than six outstations near Mecua. While they also work in their new farm to sustain themselves, they are also implementing two major projects; namely a church and a health facility construction. In the near future, the community will need to cast its eye into the education area, an area which the society around Mecúa will surely need support.

While we are happy of this mission and the involment of our brothers from Tanzania, we believe that, the future success of this mission will depend on the local vocations. It is for this reason we are and will be open to discern the intentions of any young people from Mozambique who would like to explore and join our monastic-missionary life.
